Back then the Super Cup was a two-legged final, much alike the Copa del Rey in Spain continues to be. The Italian side beat Barcelona in 1989 (1-1 at the Camp Nou and 1-0 at San Siro), and Sampdoria in 1990 (1-1 in Genova and 2-0 at San Siro).
27 years later, a team does it again. Real Madrid, the first team to win the Champions League twice in a row, becomes the first team since Milan to do so with the UEFA Super Cup.
