Jonathan visits Buhari, harps on national unity.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan today visited his successor, President Muhammadu Buhari, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.

They met behind closed-doors for about 20 minutes inside the president's office.

Addressing State House reporters later, the former president said he as well as Ijaw elders and traditional rulers were working to ensure peace in the Niger Delta region. 

Niger Delta Avengers and other militant groups have continued blowing up oil installations in the restive region.

 

Jonathan was responding to a question on what efforts he was making to ensure peace in the Niger Delta.

He stressed that a united Nigeria was needed, saying there cannot be development anywhere without peace.

According to him, Nigeria is great not because of oil, but because her size and diversity.

Jonathan parried a question on Buhari's anti-corruption war.

He said he would not talk about the anti-graft war because most of the cases were in court, assuring that when they were resolved, he would talk at an appropriate time.

Jonathan said he visited Buhari to intimate him about his international engagements, especially his recent appointment as leader of the African Union election observation mission to Zambia.
