FRSC warns political parties against “obscuring” vehicle number plate
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Zone RS5 has warned political parties against “obscuring” their vehicle number plates with posters during campaigns. The Zonal Commanding Officer (ZCO) of the zone, Mr Alkali Zaki, whose command comprises Edo, Delta and Anambra , described the act as “a punishable offence’’.
Zaki gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin on Thursday.
‘’We know that different political parties want to display the names and symbols of their parties via posters, but they should do it appropriately and not to disobey the laws of the country,’’ he said.
He
said that the commercial drivers plying routes in the zone had become
notorious for reckless driving and disobedience to traffic laws.
‘’The drivers are becoming violent on the road: when our marshals ask them to stop they don’t and deliberately knock them down.‘’This attitude is affecting the discharge of our duty and the lives of our officers are being put on the line.
“We have lost two of our officers through this reckless attitude in recent times; one was knocked down in December last year at Ireupken in Edo, and the other was knocked down in January this year by a truck at Auchi, also in Edo.
‘’So, many of our marshals have also sustained various degrees of injury as a result of being knocked down by wicked drivers,’’ he said.
